OOTD - The £6 dress

Hey everyone,

Just a quick little outfit that I have been wearing lately. We went to a market a few months ago, and I picked this dress up, for the bargain price of £6! I think it was originally Peacocks? Luckily, the size 20 fit me, as this was the largest size on the stall. It is a little 'snug', but luckily not too snug. I paired it with a chunky knit cardigan I got in the sale at New Look for £10, some plain black leggings, and some tan ankle boots I got from Primark. I love the lace peter pan collar and the fact it's quite casual; ideal for wearing to work!

I think this time of year is so depressing... Christmas is over, the weather is awful and pretty much everyone is back to work. I thought I would cheer myself up by looking at some gorgeous plus size dresses from Simply Be.

1. Lauren's way chic dress, £60. This is perfect if you work in an office or need to dress up smart for an occasion. I think this dress would look lovely with some brightly coloured tights and some high heels, and maybe some statement jewellery. This dress is also available in red, which would look really glam.

2. Peterpan collar tunic dress, £40. I couldn't not include a peterpan dress! I love the pearl collar on this.

3. Belted shirt dress, £22 (sale) The material on this looks so comfortable! I would wear this shopping in town with some leggings and a pair of flats. Plus it has pockets, which is always a winner with me!

4. 40s floral print tea dress, £31.50. This dress is really pretty, I really like the floral print, and the red colour is gorgeous.

5. 70s jersey shirt dress, £45. I like how you could literally wear this with any shoes! Wear with boots for a casual look, and with heels for a smarter look. If you didn't want to wear the tie belt as a belt, you could use it as a neck tie instead!

6. Anna Scholz 60s print dress, £32, sale. You could literally wear any colour tights with this dress! The gathering at the front is really nice too.

Pretty dress and pretty (useful) necklaces

Hi Everyone!

I've been buying quite a few dresses recently, mainly because the weather has been so strange... One minute it's really chilly, the next it's really warm! I can't believe it's November and I have been going out with just a cardigan on.

This dress is from New Look, for the bargain price of £11! If there are any left in store, (I bought this a few weeks ago) then I really recommend it. It's really light and is perfect with leggings/tights and boots. I wore it out last night, to go to a Japanese restaurant called Edamame in Oxford. If you are ever in Oxford, you must go. (The only bad bit was having to share a table with some kind of toff version of Gok Wan, waffling on and on. By the end of our meal I really wanted to poke him with my chop sticks)

I also bought these 2 necklaces from New Look, too. A really cute heart shaped locket, that opens into a little box!

I also bought this pretty cameo necklace that opens out so you can put a photo in.

I have also been featured in a magazine! The Colombian magazine 'Carrusel' emailed me a while ago asking for an interview and the results can be found here. (Please note it's all in Spanish) It's a real honour to be in the same article as some other really great bloggers.

A belated 'When summer came to town' OOTD post

This post is really quite belated! I have been really busy of late - I find 'life' in general often gets in the way of things! Anyway, this is an outfit I put together a few weeks ago, when the summer came back for a few days! Me and Kara went into Henley on Thames, which is only about a 20 minute drive away. I really love it there; the river is beautiful, and I love strolling around the town. We were looking at the menu at the Hotel Du Vin, when a taxi pulled up, and out jumped Larry Lamb... Kara and I were very excited!

So, this is what I wore. The skirt is Primark, as are the sandals, the stripe top is QS (Store 21 I think it is now?) and the bag is Matalan. Oh, and the necklace is Primark, too!

(Excuse the bad hair! I think I must have been in a rush and not used any product in it!)

Ladies that lunch

Hi everyone!

Today, I went out for an impromptu lunch with my very good friend Femmie la la and Kara. We popped into Reading and went into a few shops (rude not to!) and grabbed a bite to eat at Wagamama, where I thoroughly enjoyed a chicken katsu curry.

I wasn't sure what to wear as it is very odd weather here, it has been raining on and off all day and has just been generally miserable!

No real reason why I wore this, I just saw the skirt and top and thought it would look cute with the belt cinched in, with some black tights and ballet pumps.

The skirt has such a cute bow at the top, but if I did it right up to the top, I wouldn't be able to breathe, so I just put the top over it and cinched it in with the belt.

As you may have noticed, I got rid of the red hair! I originally wanted to go dark brown but the hair dye lied to me, and I am now more or less black. Not quite sure how I feel about it yet...

I really can't wait until next weekend, I am off to the London Tattoo Convention! I really like the art of tattooing and to be honest, I just like going to have a nosey at what other people have tattooed!

Oh, and one last thing, I will be clearing out my wardrobe in the coming weeks, and have just put up a few items on ebay, so click here to grab a bargain!

Going wild in the aisles!

(Does anyone remember that catch phrase from Supermarket Sweep? I used to love that show!)

Hey everyone!
Whilst recently doing the grocery shopping in Tesco, I spotted some pretty dresses and I couldn't help but have a peek. I found this beauty on the sale rail for £6. I got home, tried it on, and loved it so much, I went back to Tesco and picked another one up in a different pattern. The blue one is a size 22 and the pink/red one is a size 20, I don't find there is a huge amount of difference in the sizing, as the material is a light jersey, so is slightly stretchy.

Dress: Tesco, Leggings: Primark, Shoes: Primark, Glasses: Lensway, Necklace: Asda

I know this is a summer dress, but you can so work this out to be an all seasons dress. I'm going to wear it with leggings, flats and a cardigan for this time of year when you're not really sure what the weather is going to do, and with some opaque tights, a thicker cardgan and some boots in the cooler months. I think it would also look good with a biker jacket or a denim jacket too.

Pretty, wearable, practical and totally worth the £6! There were other designs, I saw a gorgeous polka dot one and a horizontal stripe one but unfortunately I couldn't find my size. Definitely worth checking out if you have a Tesco near by. I love having basic pieces in my wardrobe that I can just throw on with whatever I have available for a casual yet chic look. Autumn days

Sorry to break the bad news, but it will soon be autumn! The nights are drawing in a bit now, the mornings are starting to feel fresher, and it's time to start thinking about what coat we will be wearing for the coming season.

Brand of the month - Curvissa

Hi everyone!

I was recently contacted by Curvissa, who very kindly offered to send me an item of clothing from the range for review. I chose this beautiful black lace dress.

Curvissa are a new brand, stocking sizes 14-32. I was really impressed with the range of styles available, in particularly the range of evening wear. I also found the website easy to navigate, and well laid out. Some people will like the shape calculator function, where you add your measurements and it works out what body shape you are. It then makes suggestions as to what styles suit your body shape. (I found it interesting, as I have never known what body shape I am!)

The dress itself is very pretty. I like to have items in my wardrobe I can play around with, that I can wear to work or wear out to a more formal occassion. This dress is perfect for that. Here, I have worn it with just a belt, leggings and ballet flats, ideal for going into town shopping or out for lunch. I think it will also look awesome with some biker boots and a biker jacket when the weather gets cooler. It is short (i'm 5ft 6, for reference) but I think you could get away with wearing opaque tights with it also. To dress is up, you could pair this with opaque tights, some chunky silver bangle and some heels for a night on the town.

The quality of the dress is really good. I love the details of the sleeves, the lace on the cuffs give it a really pretty touch. The sleeves are a good length too, perfect if you're a bit shy of showing your arms. The detail of the lace is gorgeous, and I really love the lace detail on the V neck, too.

All in all, a very pretty, functional dress!

Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Breast cancer is by far the commonest cancer in women in the UK accounting for 31% of all cases in women., and although rare, can also affect men. It is a sad fact that we are likely to know, or know of someone who has been affected by this cancer.

In October, it will be breast cancer awareness month, an annual health campaign organised by major breast cancer charities to increase awareness of breast cancer and to raise funds for research . The campaign also offers information and support to those affected by breast cancer. It is also a prime opportunity to remind women to be breast aware for earlier detection.

If you were thinking of a great way to donate, Annie Haak is launching a new Tiny Tali Bracelet, priced £29. They will give half of their profits to the Pink Ribbon Foundation. That's a massive £14.50 being donated to help a fantastic cause.

Zandra Rhodes for Simply Be - A day out in London

Hey everyone!
On the 15th July, I attended the Zandra Rhodes for Simply Be launch. I won a competition on the Simply Be facebook page, which included an invitation to the event, a night in a hotel in London, and £150 to spend at Simply Be on an outfit to wear. I have never been to an event before, so was a bit nervous to begin with, but once I was there, I was made to feel welcome by the Simply Be team and soon relaxed! It was lovely to see Lauren, Naomi, Gemma and LaCara too!

The event was held at the stylish Paramount event space in Central London. The views were awesome....

We mooched about the rails, looking at the new collection, eating breakfast and chatting to Zandra Rhodes (which was a little bit surreal!)

The range is super pretty and feminine and looks great on all sizes. The drape of the fabric was lovely and the material was really good quality. Zandra Rhodes was lovely! She was wearing the most amazing pair of glittery trousers and red wedges with gemstones on them! (I wish I had got a photo)

It took me AGES to choose an outfit from the Simply Be website. I eventually chose this:

I absolutely LOVE it! I can't wait to wear it in the autumn/winter with some black tights and boots. I also chose a Suzy Smith handbag with a big bow on the front. Very me!
After the event, I went to Selfridges with Naomi, Lauren and Amy. After a couple of bottles of coca cola at the pop up coke bar and some girly gossip, Lauren and I spent the day looking around the shops and filling our faces with chinese food. So, all in all, a PERFECT day!

Sudocrem Tube

I was recently emailed by Sudocrem, who offered me the new sudocrem tube to try out. I LOVE sudocrem, it is one of my skin care must haves, so I was really eager to try it out in a tube.

Hi everyone!

I thought, just for a change, I would do a post about make up/beauty products. To be honest, when setting up my blog, I wanted it to be about style AND beauty, hence my blog name, 'Plus Size Beauty'.I really love make up. I dread to think what I spend each month on trying out new products I have seen advertised, or seen on other blogs, or heard about from friends. I turned my love of make up into a (short) career. I worked for a couple of cosmetic companies, where I did a couple of make up courses, and learnt a lot about make up application. (I was one of those annoying orange girls often found in department stores, trying to sell EVERYTHING) I started out doing a few beauty posts in the beginning, but I just stopped, I guess this is because I feel like there are loads of really excellent beauty blogs already out there, and wasn't too sure what I could contribute. So, after a small hiatus, I decided I would do a make up post!

I wasn't too sure what to title this. These are a few products I love at the moment. Things I use if not every day, most days.

I picked up this fragrance for £5 in the sale at Boots a couple of months ago. It is a very floral, almost granny like fragrance. I love really overly floral perfumes. It smells quite strong in the bottle, but once on it is light, fresh and summery. It is a blend of musk, rose and jasmine, topped with notes of pepper and bergamot. The bottle is really pretty - It is covered in butterflies!

I have always worn a very heavy foundation. I have some kind of weird acne on one side of my cheek, and do suffer from the occasional break out, especially on the T zone. When I was on holiday recently, I thought to myself 'why do I need such heavy make up, just to go to work, or go to Tesco?' The answer was, I don't! I opted for this tinted moisturiser as it was cheap, and I get on really well with Nivea products. This one is lovely and light. I find it moisturises really well, and makes me look fresh faced, without looking overly made up. I tend to pair this with a pressed powder, or the Collection 2000 mineral powder, also in the photo. I have also discovered the joy of mixing foundations lately too, so when I want a 'medium' coverage, I will simply mix this with one of my heavier foundations.

I love this vaseline, as it gives a very subtle wash of colour and is really moisturising on the lips (as all vaseline is!)

This MUA eyeshadow is really excellent. I was dubious to begin with, as the whole MUA range is only £1, but after trying it, I was really impressed. I use this white colour as a simple highlight, and a tiny bit in the corners of my eyes to open up my eyes more (thanks to Jess for the recommendation!) I also have a taupey brown colour from the range, and that too is really good. And for only £1, it's silly not to try them out!

I spotted this gel liner whilst out shopping when it was launched, and instantly fell in love with it. Since I have been doing my make up, I have always worn black eyeliner along the lower lash line. It doesn't look right if I don't! I would normally line my lower lash line with Barry M liner, then apply this over the top. It comes with a little brush that is pretty good for a 'free' brush. It lasts for AGES. It makes my eye make up look a lot neater and more defined. It is also really good on the top lash line too. I really hope they bring this out in more colours soon! Some nice bright colours would be good...

Hair powder is AMAZING. I discovered a more expensive one at my hairdressers a while back, and found an equivalent to it by Lee Stafford in Boots. However, a few more hair companies have started releasing them now. I tried the Got2Be one too, which was also good, but had a strange smell? (though this could have been me!) I got this VO5 one in Superdrug. It's so simple to use. You just sprinkle it on dry hair, and kind of lift and rub into the hair to produce MASSIVE volume. It gives my short hair so much texture, without looking greasy, or clogged up with product. It also works on long hair. If you love massive, volumised hair, I recommend you try this out!

I saw this eyeshadow primer when it was first released, and after swatching it, I knew I would go back and buy it. It's a really nice subtle goldy brown colour. It can be worn alone, with eyeshadow, or as a highlighter. It looks especially lovely with brown and gold eyeshadows, it helps eyeshadow stay on longer and makes colour look more vibrant. I don't see why it couldn't be used as a highlight on cheekbones too!

Whilst searching for a peach blush in Boots a few weeks ago, I came across this blush by Models Own. It gives a really pretty glow to the cheeks, without looking too obvious or made up. Very good value for money at £5!

Oh Collection 2000, why did you ever discontinue this?! I have only tried a few mineral make ups, but this is by far my favourite. You can wear it alone, over foundation or over tinted moisturiser. I like it because for a mineral make up, it gives quite a full coverage. It makes my skin look super healthy and glow-y. Unfortunately, the only place to buy it now is Ebay :-(

Sleek eyeshadow pallettes are bargainous. £6.49 for 12 eyeshadows, all of which are excellent quality. The pigment is brilliant, and very easy to blend. There are lots of different palettes to choose from, ranging from acid brights to darker colours. My personal favourite is the 'storm' palette. I find it ideal for taking away for a weekend, as you can create a natural look for the daytime, and then a smokey look for the evening.

Me. In a swimming costume.

I recently bought this fabulous swimming costume from Evans. I hadn't bought a swim suit in ages, and really liked this bandeau style one. The suit has sticky elastic (a bit like a strapless bra) at the top, so I feel safe and secure in it. I bought this in a size 20, cup F/G, and would say it is true to size.

I should have really fake tanned before this picture. It is scary how white I am! Please ignore the dog bum in the photo too. I am looking after my sisters dog (My dogs mummy!) at the moment, and she has to be in EVERYTHING, bless her!

I like the slight ruching on the tummy area, and a bonus to this swim suit is it has a control panel on the tummy, so if you are worried about that area, it sucks you in a bit, without feeling uncomfortable.

I admit that I haven't had chance to swim in it yet. I was hoping it might make it's first appearance in Cornwall when I was holidaying there last week, but the weather was awful!

Overall, I am really happy with this swimming costume. The fit is spot on, the material is nice, and 'the girls' feel secure!

I was recently contacted by OneStopPlus, and was asked to review a piece of clothing. I was given a selection to choose from, and I chose this lovely maxi dress.

The first thing I noticed about the dress is the quality of the material. It's a really heavy, really well made garment. I love the way it was quite flowy on the bottom - it felt very luxurious. The material is also very smooth. I was worried it might be a bit clingy on my stomach, but this was not the case. It smoothed over my stomach and gave me a nice, smooth silhouette.

I ordered this in a size 20, and I would say it fit true to size. I am normally a 20-22, so I went with a size 20 as the material has stretch.

I teamed it up with a light wash denim jacket (as it was a bit chilly out) and some black wedges and a black belt. I think it would look really good with some sandals as well, and maybe some chunky gold jewellery.

Overall, I was really impressed with this dress! The colour was vibrant, which is perfect for this seasons colour blocking trend, the fit was perfect and the material was heavy without being too heavy. You could also dress this up or down...It would be perfect over a bikini at the beach or by the pool, and can easily be dressed up with some accessories and a clutch to take you into the evening. (Therefore saving more space in your suitcase!)

WAGtastic - OOTD

For some reason, this outfit makes me feel a bit.... well, like a WAG. I'm not too sure why. I think because when I sat down the car, I was showing way too much leg, and the belt nips me in at the waist creating an illusion of huge boobs. (I mean, they are generally huge, just with a belt, they look huger) I am also wearing mega killer heels. The only occasion I ever wear heels nowadays is if I know I won't be walking far, and if I will be sat down for the duration of the outing. Today was that outing. Kara and I (and the rest of la familia, obviously!) were invited to my Aunt and Uncles joint birthday party at a hotel in Oxford. It was lovely seeing everyone. This is what I wore:

Dress: Evans, Belt: Evans, Shoes: Nine West @HOF, Necklace: Essential, Reading (I realised after the photos were taken, that I had that really annoying hangy uppy lace/loop hanging out the top of the dress! This was quickly snipped out before I left for the party!)

I love the way the dress drapes, and the jersey inserts in the side makes it look more interesting. The dress drape is a really light, silky material, and when I wore it last weekend in Cornwall, someone thought it was silk! It's ideal for weddings and formal occasions and is only £20, which I think is a bargain for a dress that fits and hangs so well.

Life update

I am going back to work tomorrow after a glorious 11 days off! I've spent all my time with Kara. We went to Nottingham for the long weekend, went to Marwell Zoo for her birthday, and Southampton tattoo convention (Titanic ink) on Saturday. I didn't take many photos, as per usual, but here are a few that I managed to take:

This photo made us laugh! We liked how the graffiti was 'helpful' and how it pointed which way town was in case the people of Basingstoke got lost!

A pretty bad photo of me, but I just wanted to show off my new tattoo that is visible on my left arm. It says MCMLXXXV, which is 1985 in roman numerals, the year my sister was born. I got this done a couple of weeks ago by Steph at Poison Ink in Basingstoke.
And this is it close up. (Not long after it was done)

I'm really happy with it, I love the script I chose and where it is. The tattoo convention was really interesting. I love looking at other peoples tattoos and all the different types of artwork on display, and it was also great to meet up with Helen and Goth Jen for a gossip in the sunshine.

Last but not least, when I go away for a while, even a few days, I REALLY miss my dog. Yes, I know this sounds sad, but I really do! I took this photo of her a couple of weeks ago of her:

Brighton Birthday Bonanza!

It was my birthday last Thursday, (I was 29! Eeeeeep!) so me and the girl booked a night away in possibly one of my fave cities in the world, Brighton. I absolutely love the atmosphere, the shops, the restaurants, the seaside... everything. The only things I bought were Urban Decay Primer Potion in 'sin', and when I got back to Basingstoke, I got a pair of navy chino type trousers and a really pretty floral dress. I will have to take the dress back though.. It didn't do up around the boob area :-( I had so many lovely presents, cards and a beautiful bouquet of flowers.

An actual, real life Twinkie! I was so excited to find a candy store (Cyber Candy) in the Laines that sold sweets from all over the world! I had a Twinkie and I got my sister some Jolly Ranchers, and picked up some Tim Tams for my Aussie friend in Vegas.

I finally wore my high waisted Beth Ditto jeans! They are SO comfy. The only problem I have is the zip is on the side, so it's a bit of a kerfuffle to get them on! I really like they fit and the way they feel and really, how they make me feel... bootilicious!

The top is from an ASOS sale ages ago. The espadrilles are Primark mens. I did get the ladies ones originally, but ended up ripping them in frustration from trying to get them on! The mens one are a lot wider and easier to get on. I think these will be my staple summer shoes. Comfortable, light, and on trend!

Hello everyone! I just keep forgetting to take photos of my outfits.... I am so bad! Off to Brighton this weekend, so will hopefully take some pics of outfits when I'm there. I know most people have seen them, but here are my new glasses!

I got them when Lensway did an offer - They gave away a certain amount of glasses for just the P&P, so I got these for just over £6, with prescription lenses too! I absolutely LOVE them. I wanted cats eye glasses for ages, and I'm so glad I got them.

EXCTING NEWS!! There is a plus size meet happening in Brighton, on Saturday 28th May. Kirsty from Fatty Unbound is planning it, and all the details you need are here. It sounds really fun; meeting in late morning ish for a cuppa, then vintage shops and lunch, and then maybe meeting on the beach later for ice cream, hence the name, Big Beach Bums! I will be attending along with my good friend Femmie La La. You don't have to be a blogger to attend, or even plus size for that matter. It is open to ANYONE.

OOTD - Reworking an old favourite

I really love this dress - I purchased it last year from Evans. I know I have worn it in a post before, but on this occasion, I have reworked it a bit. I paired it with tan brogues and belt, and a tan satchel, and because it was slightly chilly out, a camel cardigan. I was never a fan of brown until I saw Amy and Naomi rocking tan brogues, that I thought I would give it a try. I am normally a fan of black shoes and bags, but with the trend for chinos and 'floofy' things (floaty, florals, lace.. more delicate things) I think that tan gives a 'softer' effect than black.

Plus London 2011

It seems like ages since I last blogged.. Probably cos it was! I sometimes feel like I have nothing really to say and don't want to bombard people with lots of little posts about nothing in particular. I have a couple more saved up to write after this one about other things going on though, I just like to spread things out a bit!

Last Saturday was Plus London 2011, and quite simply, it was AMAZING!

After dropping my stuff off at the hostel where I met Valerie (who is just as chic and stylish as she is on her blog) and Femmie (and met Katrin randomly on the way), the 3 of us got the tube to Marble Arch, where we met everyone at Evans flagshop store. I was super excited to meet so many bloggers, and probably a bit nervous too to be honest! I shouldn't have worried.... Everyone was super lovely and friendly. After spending a while in the store, browsing the clothes and chit chatting, we all disbanded off in groups to do what we all love.. SHOPPING! We (Me and Femmie)spent the morning hanging out with Devon (of Fat Nurse). We grabbed a coffee and headed over to probably my favourite shop in London, Selfridges, where we hit the beauty hall. It really is like heaven in there.... I just love the atmosphere in there as well!

It was then time to meet up with the rest of group in Hanover Square to make sure no one was lost and decide where to go for lunch. We ended up lunching at Yo! Sushi with Carla from Messy Carla and Maria of Frills 'n' Spills. Both ladies are so stylish and just fabulous! (Femmie had already spotted Marias coat when we had met earlier in Hanover Square. It looks so designer, so I went over and asked her straight out where it was from.. and it was from Tesco! It definitely broke the ice ;-)) Here is Carla and Maria in Yo! Sushi:

After lunch, and a look in a few shops, Maria had to leave us (BOOOOOOOOOO) and Femmie, Carla and I popped into a few more shops on Oxford Street. I found loads of stuff I liked in Primark (Primark now goes up to a size 20, just so you know) but I was NOT queueing up! This shop seriously needs sorting out. Either buy bigger premises or put in more tills! After this we went to New Look (The one up the stairs, opposite Primark) where I bought some beautiful purple buckle brogues, that I will show you in the next post.

Then it was time for me and femmie to part ways with Carla and get ready for the evening do! Now, please excuse my lack of photos! I got 'tired and emotional' far too early, (I started drinking rum at about 17.30!) so totally forgot to take many photos! We were met on the door by a super glamourous Lauren who took our names and met up with all the lovely ladies from earlier.

We made our way downstairs where we found rails of clothes from some of our sponsors: Anna Scholz, Yours Clothing, ASOS, H&M, Torrid and Carmakoma.

I loved the brightly coloured prints at Anna Scholz, and I really got a 70s vibe from the dresses they have at the moment.

I was really interested to see a few items from the H&M inclusive range as well. I adored a beautiful cream/white cardigan, that was as soft as kittens! It had the cutest sequins on the front too. I thought it looked really vintage and would look perfect with pretty much everything! I was also pretty excited to see the Yours Clothing Peter Pan collar tunic that caused a lot of excitement recently in the blogosphere. Lauren had it on earlier and it looked fab, and it was nice to see it in real life as it were. (I have literally had to sit on my wallet to stop me buying this!)

At this point, we wondered into the pop up photo studio that was provided by Fashion Loves Photos and The Second Floor Studio, to say hello to Diana and Geoff, and of course have our photos taken:

I was so sad when the night ended! Femmie and I decided that the night was still young and ended up going for a few more drinks, queuing up at G.A.Y and giving up as the queue was HUGE (Cher Lloyd is more popular than we thought!) and hobbling back to the hostel at about 1am.

I met so many wonderful people. It was really quite surreal to be in the same room as all the bloggers I have admired for so long. I really hope this is something we can do again sometime!

Polka dots and news update!

Hey everyone!

Sorry I've been away for so long. I have been really busy and just haven't had time to blog! I did some guest blogging for Evans, which you can find here. Yesterday, I did a shoot for the magazine Diva, about my personal style. I had some photos taken and answered a few questions. The magazine isn't out yet, but I will let you all know when it is!

I thought I would take this opportunity to post a couple of OOTD's too. The first outfit I wore to work today, and the second is what I wore out to Wagamama's with Kara on Saturday evening.

I know I have already shown you this dress back in August, but I really enjoy wearing it, and it's versatile enough to wear in all seasons.

I've had these shoes for ages, and they have a tiny kitten ish type heel, which wore away really quickly. I found them in my wardrobe, and finally got round to repairing them!

I got the earrings as a gift from Femmie lala. I love them as they are really big and stand out!

New year outfit - Spot the difference!

Hey everyone!

I hope you are all well, and you all had a great Christmas and New year.

I have been so slack not posting in AGES! I had so much time off during the holidays and had so many outfit posts planned, but I left mine and my gf's camera at my house, and I was at her house for Twixmas. I was extra annoyed because we went to the Isle of Wight for a short break, and would have loved to have taken some photos there, too. Never mind! I am back now and normal blogging shall resume!

This is the outfit that I wore for New Years Eve. I can't really call it an Outfit of the Night really, as I didn't have my camera on the actual night, so I have come home today and changed into exactly what I wore to post here now.

In the second photo you can see the shoes better. These were a recent purchase from the Evans sale. I really like them as the heel is the perfect height without being uncomfortable and I think the grey is slightly different and softer to wear with an all black outfit.

The dress is the dress I tried on when I went to Yours Clothing HQ. I absolutely love it. I think it's designed to be more of a tunic, but I like to wear things slightly shorter anyway, so have teamed it up with tights. It would also look good with leggings or jeggings as well. My favourite part is definitely the big, puffy sleeves. They just make me feel good!(And, obviously in keeping with my obsession with the 80's)

The necklace is new as well. This was from the Accessorize sale. I love it as it is REALLY big and eye catching. I often find that dainty jewellery doesn't suit me, it just doesn't match my personality and style, (I hope that doesn't sound too crazy?) so when I spotted this in store I snapped it up!

The next 2 photos is just me playing about with different colours and accessories, and coming up with ideas of how to wear the dress next time.

I think the pearls give the velvet a different look, almost a more glamorous look. The belt is sequin and I just added it as a little extra, to make it look a bit different and slightly more dressy.

I added the purple tights instead of the black, as I think purple and grey always look good together. The purple just breaks it up a bit as well and makes it look more fun!

I also coloured my hair slightly darker just before New Year. It's now more of a darker red. Not really sure how I feel about it yet! I change my mind so often. I am desperate to go blonde again like I was in my teens, but am scared my hair might fall out!

A few of you may have already seen on twitter and facebook, that the lovely Lauren is organising a meet up! It will be in London, on Saturday 5th February 2011.

Monday Moan

Hey folks,

For people that follow me/other plus size bloggers on Twitter, you will know that an article published by 'Real Bodies Unite' has caused somewhat of an uproar in the plus size community of late.

After reading these articles, I was angry, shocked and pretty disgusted. Here was a site, who claims to unite real bodies (Which is ridiculous anyway, we are ALL real bodies, whether we are a size 0 or a size 30) interviewing someone with very obvious body issues. Not only personal body issues, but belittling people who don't believe in what she says. I share with you a quote:

'Many of the plus-size community saw me as being ‘untrue’ to them or they perceived me to be on a preach fest. Many took it personally and I understand how it came across. They looked at me for so many years being happy to be big and all of a sudden I was saying, ‘look fat isn’t fabulous for me anymore. I’m obese and many of you are obese and when you say that word it’s not cool and it’s not something we should be promoting as such.’

First off, I am not having a go if people want to change their lifestyles or
diets. This is just not for me to comment on. For example, a good friend of mine
recently embarked on a massive lifestyle change and lost a lot of weight. She
was unhappy with how she felt and she changed something. I encouraged her and
supported her. At not one point did she ever say to me 'You know what Kat, you
having a plus size blog is promoting obesity'. I have absolutely NO IDEA of
where Vanessa got the information that we are promoting obesity. I can't talk
for everyone, but my blog is about ME. It's about the clothes I wear, the shops
I shop in and the outfits that I put together. Since when has any of that
promoted obesity?
Moving on to Part 2... (Yes, it gets worst...)

'Teens and twenty somethings are particularly easy to target if you sell them the
right ‘dream’ which in this case is plus-size fashion and that ‘fat’ = strong,
happy, comfortable etc.’ Until recently I drank that kool-aid up and I believed
it. I woke up with new eyes and strong consideration of the facts and I can
speak for myself without the need for a garment to do the talking for me.
To all those teens and 20 somethings who currently are overweight I would say,
enjoy the fashion because it’s beautiful but don’t use it as justification to
stay overweight forever. When the time is right for you, you’ll see that the
majority of obese people really are not truly comfortable physically or mentally
and those that are either in denial (and will hate you for pointing that out as
I used to be when someone questioned my health and weight) or luckily have not
yet suffered any health effects from their weight.'

The thing that made me most cross here is that it feels like she is talking on behalf of everyone that is obese. How can someone assume that because someone is obese that they are not truly comfortable physically or mentally? Maybe for her she wasn't. But I for one am comfortable. I have been overweight for as long as I can remember. I am also happy. Yes, it took me a long while to come to terms with these facts, but I can honestly say I am happy, content and definitely not in denial about my weight.

Something that also angered me about this is that teenagers could be reading this. Impressionable teenagers, teenagers who are maybe not comfortable with their weight. Are we not forgetting, that 'Real Bodies Unite' is celebrating bodies of all different shapes and sizes after all?

'Beth Ditto has a beautiful voice, mind and
kind spirit but she’s young – she
looks much older. Is that what I want to
look like? No, no matter how you dress
it up she’s a rich celebrity whose
overweight and we cannot all get away with
being that size and having that
much success whilst being high fived for it. How
many young girls out there
think they can be Beth Ditto?'

First off, yes she is right about Beth Ditto. She does have an amazing voice, and although I can't say I know her personally (unfortunately), when I have seen her in interviews, she has always come across very well and very genuine. Her size should NOT come into it. How can she not be high fived? Because, heaven forbid, she is fat AND successful?!

I decided to email Real Bodies Unite about this article:

Hi Sarah,

I am just emailing you to let you know how
disappointed and upset myself and a number of the plus size community are, about
the Vanessa Reece article on your website.

I think it was very poor form
to have someone with such bad body image interviewed on your website.

I write a blog, www..plussizebeauty07.blogspot.com, and this certainly does NOT
promote obesity. My blog, and I'm sure many other plus size blogs out there,
are written to show and to prove that no matter what you're size, you can look good,
fashionable, and *SHOCK HORROR* be happy at the size we are.

Have you ever considered doing an interview with someone in the plus
size community, to see what we are all about, instead of just taking
Vanessa's word for it?

I think this was a fair enough reply. I emailed this over on Thursday. This morning (Monday) I received this reply:

Thank you for your input.

I think if you had taken the time to understand our Real Bodies Unite website, you would see that I have carried out several interviews with a variety of people from many different backgrounds, like the designer Anna Scholz, model Linda Tatla and blogger Marie Denee to name a few and I intend to showcase many more women and men in the future expressing their opinion on body image.

THIS IS NOT A PLUS SIZE WEBSITE

This is about all shapes, sizes, ages and ethnicity working
towards the use of body, beauty and age diversity in the fashion industry. The
website also highlights people from around the world trying to make the same
change with their own campaigns so I do not believe my interview with Vanessa
was in any way disappointing.

Yes, Vanessa has changed her body image
perspective and this is for her health and her mother’s health, we should be
congratulating her on being so brave and willing to help others if they are not
happy in their skin. She was not happy and wanted to make a change.

We are talking about health and happiness; the ‘plus size community’ shouldn’t be
discriminating against individuals for their decision to change their own body
image.

Something that i thought, was a good idea. I wanted to put across my (Our?) views about this article.

You know what else is kind of sad? That Vanessa was part of the community at one point.

OOTD - Winter woolies

Hey everyone!

It is absolutely freezing here in the UK at the moment! I'm not very good with cold weather at all, I would much rather it be warm rather than cold. I'm sure it's going to get colder too *groan*

This is what I have been wearing the last couple of weeks to work. Not exactly the same clothes, but the same kind of idea: Jeggings or leggings, with a longline jumper and boots. It's hardly exciting either, but I thought I would show you all as most of the items are new.

I got this necklace in Asda! I love how it looks almost antique and is quite chunky. It's also quite heavy and is a really nice length. It's really pretty and I've hardly taken it off since I bought it last week!

The boots I bought in Evans summer sale. I think they must have been really old stock they just found in the warehouse and put online! They are so comfy and warm for the winter. They are wide fit, which means I can wear them with some chunky socks, and the calf width is wide too, which means I can also wear them with skinny jeans.

It's just a really basic, comfortable outfit. The leggings are made to look like bleached jeans which I really love. I think it makes a change from plain black leggings.

The jumper is from Primark. They have a really good range of knitwear in at the moment, and quite a few of the size 18s in the selection are roomy. I also bought this jumper in camel and in purple as well. If you are a larger size than me, (I am generally a 22/24 on top) I would definitely recommend trying these.

The snood is from Primark too. It is so warm! I didn't realise until I looked at the photos that it looks like I'm wearing a neck brace! I normally slouch this down a bit more than in the photos.

New Blog Layout!

Just a very quick post to thank Natalie (who runs 'Extra large as life') for updating and redesigning my blog!

I wanted something clear, professional and I also wanted the colours black, white and pink. Not for any particular reason, just that they are my favourite colours, and I think they go well together! I wanted the London skyline as, quite simply, I love London! I get really excited about going to London, even though it is less than an hour away from where I live. It gives me butterflies when I'm there, London makes me happy!

Yours Clothing day out

I was so excited to get an email from Devon a few weeks ago inviting me to a day at the Yours Clothing office and Warehouse in Peterborough. Monday was the day of the big event!

I made my way to Kings Cross to jump aboard the train with Devon, Lauren, and Georgina. When we arrived in Peterborough, we were joined by Carla and Steph. We were picked up by Yours Clothing and driven just out of the town centre, to their head office and warehouse.

When we arrived, we were joined by Leigh, and had a delicious lunch (total way to a fat girl's heart!) whilst we chatted away about fashion, blogging and, well, pretty much everything!

After lunch, (After my gigantic slice of fresh cream chocolate cake to be precise!) we all gathered around the computer and showed Leigh our blogs, and told him a little bit about them. I found this really interesting. We were all fashion bloggers, yet we all have different directions, and we all have different styles. It was really nice to find out a little bit about why we blog, and how we got into blogging. Leigh also showed us the Yours Clothing website, and all the different features on it, and asked us what we thought of them.

After a lot of gossiping and giggling, we were then shown around the warehouse. As you can see below, it was boxes and boxes and rails and rails of pretty clothes!

We were then shown into the 'catwalk' room! This is where the catwalk feature on the website is filmed, and where the photos of the models in the clothes are taken. This was FUN! We all walked the catwalk and posed, I felt like a proper model!

We got to look in all the offices and meet all the people who work there as well.

Next we got to try anything we wanted on. A rail was brought in of clothes that had been selected, and we were also allowed to select items from the website to be brought up from the warehouse. It was really interesting to see the items in the flesh, and to have a good laugh together trying things on.

This dress was SO perfect. The shoulders were really puffy, it's velvet and was really well fitting.
Also in the board room was this mannequin:

I tried this dress on! It's really heavy and has so much detail in it. It's also really classic. I think anyone could wear it, young or old, and it's a style that I don't think will ever really go out of fashion. (sequins and sparkle are ALWAYS in fashion in the world of Kat!)

I had such a lovely day out. It was really nice to meet such a friendly, enthusiastic team at Yours Clothing, and I also got to meet Georgina and Carla for the first time. (Who were both adorable)

1 Dress, 2 Looks

I recently bought this dress from ASOS Curve. I was inspired by a post that Stiletto did.. She looked fab in it, and I had my eye on the dress for a while, so I got it. It was in the sale, but sadly is no longer on the site. I was after a smart, flexible black dress that I can just take out of my wardrobe and accessorise according to the occasion. This evening, I just had a play around with a couple of different looks, and this is the outcome. The first one is the 'dress down' version, something I would probably wear for casual drinks or a day shopping.

I love the bright yellow against the black of the dress. It's such a simple way of accessorising as well. Belt, Shoes, Hair band, DONE!

The second outfit is more of a night out outfit. Black and red is such a classic combination, and something I really enjoy wearing. It's bright and it's eye catching, 2 things I love!

I love the contrast of the straps on the shoes against the red tights! These shoes are actually pretty comfortable as well.

What I've been buying lately

Autumn is here! Some people find this time of year depressing... The weather is colder, it gets darker earlier and everyone starts to feel generally.. blah. I admit, I am one of those people, but I much prefer Autumn/Winter clothes!

There a few trends I will be buying into, the first one leopard print (It's never out of fashion in my world!) and the second is velvet. I really didn't think I would like velvet, and SOME of it does still revoke memories of Prince, (or whatever he's called these days, I think he's reverted back to Prince?) but I think if it's done subtly, it can look really nice. (This is my opinion, of what suits me, if you wanna go out in a purple velvet catsuit, then please do)

This Velvet dress is perfect! Bang on trend and can be dressed up or down. (However, out of stock in my size, and following a chat with Stephanie, who I know was also wanting it, it hasn't been seen in store either!)If this dress comes back into stock, it will be mine! I did however, find some great pieces in Primark. If you are a smaller plus size, there are some fab velvet dresses and blazers. I found this beauty:

AND for only £5! I can squeeze my size 20 bum into this, and this is a size 18. I'm sure if you were bigger it would fit too, as it's quite stretchy. I'm about 5ft 6 and a bit, and if I wear it on my waist where I would normally wear it, it's quite short, but personally, I like the length of it.

I LOVE LEOPARD PRINT. I have honestly loved and been wearing leopard print since I was about 17/18. I guess you could say I was kind of emo/scene before a name was invented for it all! I adore it, it is by far my favourite print. I think it's a print that's never really out of style.

I bought this coat from New Look Inspire. When I saw it in the 'straight size' range, I actually did a little gasp from across the shop and tried on the 18, which unfortunately didn't fit (I knew it wouldn't, but hey, I tried, you never know) I hope and prayed this would go into the Inspire range, and when I saw it, I HAD to have it.

I'm not a brand snob or a labels snob AT ALL. If something fits me, and I like it, I buy it. I think supermarkets have really upped their game in the last few years in terms of fashion pieces, and I often browse Tesco and Asda (Part of the Wal Mart group for my American readers) for clothes. I find they offer a reasonably wide range of sizes too. Tesco goes up to a size 22, and has a plus size range that goes from 16-28, and Asda goes up to a size 24, with some pieces (very limited on the website, unfortunately) goes up to a size 28 as well. As well as offering some fashion pieces, you can also pick up some really good basics. I picked these leopard print flats up from Asda:

I'm really pleased these go up to a size 9. I am normally a size 8 (a 7 in Evans wider fit) but sometimes I find an 8 is slightly too small, so it's nice to have an option to buy a 9. These were only £6. They also have zebra print, and an array of patent colours as well. I think I'm going to buy the red ones next....

Beth Ditto - My view

Hey everyone!

I know LOTS of other bloggers have already covered the Beth Ditto range, but thought I would share my views and my photos too.

As you already know, I am a big fan of Beth. (Who saw 'Fearne meets Beth Ditto' on ITV2 last week? Wasn't she SO lovely?) I love her confidence and her style and her whole attitude. I was really excited when I read she would be doing a 2nd collection, as I loved the first one so much. I know it would be impossible, but I wish she would design for Evans all the time!

I got sent a few photos from Evans PR of the launch, which took place in Selfridges. I was also really glad to hear the range would be available in Selfridges too; I know a few people who wouldn't go into Evans as it's a 'fat persons shop' (Yes, I know it's ridiculous, but it's true) and I also think it's good publicity for the plus size market as a whole, proving to others that yes, we CAN be fat AND fashionable!

And here are the lovely staff at Evans Marble Arch. I posted this one as it shows how versatile the collection is. It can be worn in so many ways, as demonstrated perfectly by the lady on the far right. I love how she has pulled the maxi dress right up to a shorter length!

After seeing the collection on line, (I got up early on the Friday morning to look!) I decided I had to go to Marble Arch and try the collection on and take some photos for you all. I apologise now for the quality. I am far from a photographer, and I was on my own, hence why they are not fabulous!

Here is the collared polka dot dress. I went for a size 20, as there was no 22 on the rails. It does fit, but was slightly too tight around my boobs, but then this was expected as I normally take a 22/24. I REALLY like this dress. The only complaint I had was that it was lined. I know it's an Autumn/winter collection, but it was slightly too warm for me. However, this is just a personal thing, and, again, may be due to the fact I tried on a size smaller than my usual.

I tried this on in my normal size. I did like it, but I just don't think it's very me! I loved the fact it had long sleeves though, and it would look really good with leggings, or tights if you so wished!

I adored this! This again was my normal size. I would love to get a big red cinch belt to wear with this, and pair it with red tights and some black heels. The bottom bit is quite tight, so you could always adjust the length of it.

This is in my normal size (22) I think I would down size at least one size in this. I just didn't like it on me... It was a bit shapeless and just kind of sat there. Although I'm sure it will look really nice on other people, it maybe nicer on pear shaped ladies. (I am very top heavy, the opposite to pear shaped unfortunately!) The one thing I did like however, was that the length can be adjusted by the drawstring at the bottom.

Last, but not least, is the velvet dress. I LOVE this dress, I can't find a thing wrong with it! I love the fact it has pockets too! It's also the perfect length too. The material is lovely on this, I love the feel of velvet (in a non pervert way, of course) The colour is lovely too, navy is very in this season and I think it makes a change from plain black.

I do have a few other pictures of other items I tried on, but they are a bit blurry. If you wanted to see other photos of how the other items look and don't mind blurry photos, just email me and I will send them on.

I didn't buy anything from the collection. This wasn't that I didn't like anything, because I did, but I was being practical (for once) and bought myself a winter coat I really needed, which will be my next blog post.

Beth Ditto for Evans (Again!)

I umm'd and ahhhh'd about doing this post, as I know a lot of other bloggers have already reported this, but after debating it for a while, I decided to go ahead! I know everyone probably reads the same blogs and will have already seen it, but I'm not too sure.. Maybe I do have readers who don't read other blogs?! Anyway, enough blurb. It excites me, and I wanted to write about it, so there :-P

This is the second collection that has been designed by Beth Ditto for Evans. I am a HUGE fan of Beth. Her views on fashion are refreshing and honest, and she is my number one style icon. She was one of many people that made me realise you can be fat, fashionable and slightly kooky all at the same time! She helped me with my body acceptance, and I'm sure that if it wasn't for her, I wouldn't have the eclectic wardrobe I have now.

The range will be available in Selfridges London, Evans Marble Arch and online from this Friday 17th September 2010 and the following stores from the 23rd Sep...White City, Belfast Castle Court, Manchester Trafford, Bluewater, Meadowhall, Liverpool, Glasgow Argyle St, Dublin Henry St, Cardiff, Lakeside and Metro Gateshead.

The collection will be available in sizes 14-32.

So far, I am loving the heart tunic! I am pretty sure this isn't the entire range, so am excited when it FINALLY debuts on Friday to see what other pieces are going to be featured. I adored the last range and bought the sequin dress/tunic. It is really well made and fantastic quality. Not entirely sure what I will buy from this, (just had my car insurance renewal through, all I can say is ouch!) but if I do buy anything I will definitely be posting it on here! I am unfortunately a bit too far away from any of the stores that are stocking it, so I am unable to do a changing room post :-( I am rather hoping Lauren and/or Em will do a changing room post so I can see what the items are like in real life!

OOTD - Saturday going out

I went out Saturday night into Reading with some friends. Kara and I did a spot of shopping first (I bought some new make up! I will post in the week about what I purchased) then we went to Mission Burritos for something to eat (Kara's favourite new restaurant I reckon!) As it was Pride, we were due to go to a gay pub, but apparently it was ticket only, so we popped next door to another pub and had a few drinks there. We were back pretty early, so we went to Bunkfest, which is a festival in my home town. We had some real ale stuff and saw some family and friends, and then got chips and were in bed before midnight!

I think this Barry M lipstick (number 62) is my favourite lipstick. It is so bright and eye catching! I also love really pink blushers.. this is a mixture of ELF All Over colour stick in Pink Lemonade, with Nars orgasm powder blush over the top. The foundation is Collection 2000 lasting perfection in vanilla with a cornsilk pressed powder on the top. The eyes are kept pretty neutral; NYX eyeshadow in Champagne and the new Rimmel lash accelerator mascara and benefit bad gal eyeliner.

What I bought at the Big Bum Jumble

Hey folks,

Here are a few photos of what I bought at the Big Bum Jumble. I love every single item I bought, and I am enjoying wearing them very much, so thank you to whoever donated these lovely pieces, they are bringing me a lot of joy!

I saw this dress and knew I HAD to have it. It is just so cute! I haven't worn this yet, but am going to wear with some opaque tights and probably my brogues.

Red is one of my favourite colours, and I love this jacket. It will look perfect in the winter with a tube skirt and body. The label reads size 12, so it doesn't fasten, but it doesn't look too small at all. Yet more proof to try things on! In fact, I don't think I bought anything at the Big Bum Jumble that was in my size, I just tried everything on, and everything fitted perfectly.

What a beauty this top is! I love anything with a nautical theme, so this was quickly snapped up! The colours are perfect together and I totally adore the lovely anchors on it. Not too sure what I am going to wear this with though.. I think it will look good with some dark skinny jeans and flats. Alternatively some high waisted shorts or high waisted skirt maybe? What would you wear this with?

These are a couple of other things I picked up. I was looking for a red pair of flats and found these, they are hardly worn! I also love the vintage look of this bag, and it is such a handy size for an evening out. I got these 2 belts, too. The yellow one was part of Lauren's bat girl costume, so it has a little bit of history to it! I have already paired this with jeggings and a plain black long line t shirt and some matching yellow flats. The black one is real leather and will go with so many things in my wardrobe.

There will be a part 2 coming up. Other bits I have purchased and haven't got round to photographing yet. I also didn't want to overwhelm anyone with a 'photo overload'!

A 'Femmie' Inspired OOTD

This is what I wore yesterday, just to work. I was inspired by my good friend Femmie, who wore a similar outfit to the Big Bum Jumble on Saturday. I added the scarf,which kind of reminds of an 80s Sloaney, when I got home from work, and I love the way it looks with the horizontal stripes. (And I admit, I do love the 80s Sloaney look, can't wait to rock this up with a twin set and pearls!) I've got really into neck scarves recently. I think they add a different dimension to an outfit, and can also add a sometimes much needed colour splash to any outfit.

I really love these brogues. I'm not sure why they are part of the summer range (I got them in the summer sale) as I think I will get a lot more wear out of them in the winter with cute dresses and tights. I have been wearing these in, and they are getting more and more comfortable with every wear. (Apologies for the dog foot in the photo, she kept following me!)

These photos show off the scarf in all its glory! It's very gold and I just love the Eiffel Tower on it! C'est tres chic! (albeit a little.. tacky?!)

Big Bum Jumble - What a day!

Hey everyone!

Saturday was the Big Bum Jumble! It was AMAZING. In fact, I cannot put into words what a fantastic event it was. I bought lots of brilliant clothes, including some lovely vintage pieces, some jeans for The Girlfriend, some accessories and a corset. (I will, of course, do another post on my items in the week.)

I think the best thing about the whole event was the atmosphere. Everyone was lovely, encouraging people to try things on and picking bits out for each other. I think this is what made the event so special... The overall positive 'feel' of the event and the welcoming feeling you got when you were there. I met so many lovely and genuine people, that I will no doubt be meeting again.

During the afternoon, there was a fashion show, with models showing off what was donated to the jumble. A group volunteered to do the catwalk, and in the group were myself ,Lauren of The Pocket Rocket Amy of Wolf Whistle and Charlotte of Obesity Timebomb to name but a few! It was so much fun!

This is me, walking the catwalk! (Thanks for taking the photos, Femmie!) I know you can't see my outfits very well, but I think I was walking a little too fast for Femmie to take any decent ones. You will be pleased to know that I purchased the red dress (it's polka dot!) in the 1st photo, and I also purchased the little blue jackety item in the 2nd.

As you can see from the photos, the event also had the Unskinny Bop DJs, which was also brilliant.

I would really like to say thank you and well done to Kay Hyatt, who was the principal organiser of the event. It was a great day, and something that will be talked about for years to come.

OOTD - Visiting friends

Just a very quick OOTD. This is what I wore to visit some friends in Southampton. We just went for a coffee and then afterwards, me and Goth Jen looked around a few shops. (I was good, I didn't buy anything, just some perfume!)

As you can see, I have also changed my hair from black to red! This was quite a long process, but I used the extra strength colour remover, colour B4 I think it's called, from boots instead of bleach (which I would have done before) and this stuff is AMAZING. It changed my hair to a gingery brown colour, which I then coloured with an XXL Schwarzkopf colour. It changed it to quite a dark red, so 2 weeks later I used a Schwarzkopf XXL luminance colour.. And Voila! Red hair! I think I may put on another load of colour next time I get my hair cut, as I would still like it brighter.

(This picture took me AGES to get, sorry it's not the best.. I know she also looks slightly disturbed.. This is because she suddenly comes alive in the evening..)

ANYWAY! A small plea. As everyone knows, I am off to the Big Bum Jumble on Saturday, 14th August at Stratford Circus in London. (which takes place between 12 and 5pm) I am asking for donations of your unwanted clothes for this great event.

HAVE A GIANT CLEAR OUT! Go through your wardrobes and drawers and get rid of things that you no longer like, things that no longer fit, things that aren't your style anymore... Just have a massive clear out! Next thing you need to do is call the Big Bum Jumble hotline on 07882 117 167 or email bigbumjumble@gmail.com to arrange a pick up or drop off. You could also ask your fat friends to do the same, in fact, please do ask your fat friends to do the same!

Alternatively, you can also bring your donations on the day. This applies to EVERYTHING XL+ including womens, mens, and childrens. If you are smaller, have an accessories clear out!

UK Bloggers meet

Hey all!

On Saturday was the UK Bloggers meet, which took part in London. We met up at Waterloo at 10am, and once Devon and Jo gave us our Simply Be goody bags (which contained a London A-Z, an exclusive discount code and a really cute compact.. Thanks Simply Be!) we made our way over the bridge to the London Eye. The original plan was to go on the London Eye, but quite a few of us have already been on it, so we decided on the open top bus tour!

The open top bus was really fun and interesting. I would definitely recommend it if you are visiting London.

After the bus tour, we went to meet Meryl and then headed to Tesco to grab a sandwich. We ate our lunch in the grounds of Somerset House, which was lovely. There were tables and chairs laid out and the fountains were on and it was hard to believe you were in central London!

Devon and Jo had set up a quiz for us! It was really good fun, and Louise and I came joint second with Wendy, Meryl and Sophie. We lost the tie break though. (We weren't too good at naming animals beginning with N. I can't think why my 'New Forest Pony' didn't count...!) Well done to Team B(eautiful)! After lunch, we toddled off to Oxford Street. We went to Topshop first. I must admit, this is somewhere I haven't really bothered with in the past. I just have an attitude of 'If you're not going to stock my size, why bother giving you my money?'But now I know that some of their clothes can be made to work on a larger size now though, as demonstrated by Lauren for Vogue Curvy. Plus, they do some excellent accessories! Next up was New Look, which is just a few doors down from Topshop, and has an Inspire range. I bought this striped vest, which is the perfect length for wearing with leggings/jeggings.

We then jumped on a bus and went to Evans. I tried on a few pairs of shoes, but unfortunately I didn't find any that fitted! Stephanie and I then popped next door to Superdrug where I picked this up:

The Sleek Make up 'Sunset' Palette. (I love these eyeshadows, but that's a different post!) I also picked up the Collection 2000 Lasting perfection foundation, but again, that is a different post.

Stephanie and I then popped over to good ol' Primark. This is when we lost quite a few people. I think we did very well to get this far, London was chocka on Saturday afternoon! (I do apologise for not saying goodbye!)
In Primark I purchased a long black maxi skirt, and a tan Mulberry Alexa wannabe:

I also bought these AMAZING shoes. (With a bit of persuasion from Steph!)

I'm in love with these shoes! I think they will look good with my black dress I have, and they don't look/feel too uncomfortable either!

After this, I walked down to Selfridges, where I looked about the make up, and purchased some yummy cakes for the Girlfriend!

It was such a lovely day. I met some wonderful people, and I really hope we can all get together again soon. THANK YOU to everyone that made the day so special.

What to wear with... Part 1

Hey folks!

I have a wardrobe full of things I buy, and then wear very rarely because I'm not sure what to wear it with, so I thought I would start a series of posts of items from my wardrobe, and ask for your input!

I bought these Chino trousers in the New Look Inspire sale. I have worn them once! I do really like them. They are really light and ideal for the lovely weather we are having when I want to dress a bit smarter than shorts!

Here they are! They are just plain, cream coloured chino trousers.

What I am asking is: How would you wear these? What would you wear them with?

I am asking this as another 'medium' of inspiration. I get inspiration from EVERYWHERE. Blogs, (straight size and plus size) girls on the street, (and boys!) music, art... Lots of places, and I thought why not gain some more influence from my readers?

No OOTD/exciting new purchases today I'm afraid, just a quick post about a few things coming up in 'Fatshion' Land!

After travelling to many cities round the world, my heart will always belong in London!

Maxi Madness!

Hey peeps!

I am loving this weather! Last week, I went to Southampton (one of my fave cities - Probably due to the fact I went to Uni there) and met up with some friends for cocktails and lunch, and also did a spot of shopping. I'm trying to go on a bit of a clothes buying ban, but I couldn't resist this skirt when I saw it in Primark. I tried the size 18 on, as it has an elasticated waist, and it fitted perfectly. It certainly is worth trying on a size 18 if you do take a larger size, especially if they are stretchy, or have an elasticated waist. The only thing I can't work out about Maxi's is the length. I am 5ft 6", (and a bit!) and this skirt is a tiny bit too long. Now, I always thought 5ft 6" would be an average height (I normally take a regular length in jeans/trousers) but this skirt drags on the floor if I don't pull it right up. No real biggy I guess! This is the skirt and what I also wore to go for Lunch yesterday.

The sandals here are also from Primark for £4!! They had lots of different colours in store. They are really comfortable and go with lots of things in my wardrobe.

The photo of the skirt up close is just to show you the pattern on it. I really like the bright greens and blues in it.

OOTD - Wedding Belle

I do love a good wedding, I think part of why I love them is the choosing of the outfit, accessorising it and then the getting ready on the day. Today I went to Kara's niece's wedding, this is what I wore:

I love this outfit, it combines my 2 of my favourite things; Polka dots and leopard print! The dress is strapless, I am probably going to pair this with flats as well for a daytime look. (I confess I did swap the heels for flats after a couple of hours... My feet were killing me, as I hardly ever wear heels)

I also wore Revlon ColorBurst lipstick in fuchsia, which unfortunately doesn't show up in the photo. The lipsticks are lovely, really moisturising, stay on a long time, are really pigmented and come in some really nice colours. If you haven't tried them, I really recommend them! (Coral is next on my shopping list!)

In other news, I now have over one hundred followers! It's great to know that people read this and get joy out of it (I hope). So, a very big THANK YOU to all of my followers.

Yesterday we (myself and Kara) went up to London to see our good friend Louise (AKA Femmie lala.) We looked around the shops on Oxford Street, went to the Hummingbird bakery, (another one of my passions is baking/cooking, and this place was just like walking into heaven!) and then we went for dinner in Covent Garden, before saying our goodbyes as Kara and I had got tickets to the Rage Against The Machine gig in Finsbury Park. (Which was pretty bloody awesome)

Here is what I wore:

I also bought a tube skirt from H&M main section, which is black and white striped. This is after chatting to Stephanie, (her blog can be found here) who told me that some of the main range section is actually pretty big. I tried it on (in size large) and it fits great!

I have also got quite into pretty frilly ankle socks. I got a pair of black polka dot ankle highs in Primark and also a lovely white Lacy pair from New Look.

Just a quick pic to show off probably my fave lipstick. It doesn't look that bright in the picture, but it is neon pink. I absolutely love wearing a very dark outfit and finishing it off with a mega bright lipstick. This one is Barry M in 52.

Lookville=Bitchville

Hey everyone!

I recently got an invitation through my email to join a site called "lookville". This is from the website:

"LookVille is a social fashion network made up of people from all around the world answering one simple question: How do I look?
In LookVille, you can search for fashion inspirations or take photos of your (or other people's) looks. The live feedback you get from our members will help you pick out cute outfits and try new styles.
When you are done, help others pick out their outfits and trade fashion tips or style advices with people on the other side of the globe."

I thought to myself.. "hmm, this looks interesting". It appealed to the nosey person in me too, as I like looking at both plus size and straight size style. The majority of it being straight size on this site, which didn't bother me at all.

I (thought) it would be a great place to ask other people how to style different outfits and get fresh ideas.

So, off i went and posted a photo of myself from this post .. A post that had a lot of positive feedback and I felt pretty good about.

I asked the simple question "How else could I style this dress up?" with the info underneath reading: "I love this dress but have only worn it once! I need other ways to dress it up (or down)"

I was looking for examples, maybe different colours to wear with the dress, shoes etc.. NOT the following comments that were written:

"to be completely honest, I'm not a big fan of the dress. doesn't fit you the best. it's a tad loose on the top"

"I don't like the dress on you it looks dated and the belted look is not good"

And the one that annoyed me the most...

"I would put a plain black suit over it. Too much going on for someone your size and shape"

How on earth are any of these responses relating to my original question?! I didn't ask if people liked it or not, as to be totally honest, I will wear what I like, not what other people like or want me to wear, and finally, what on earth is the last one?! It's a floral dress. How is that too much going on?! I'm not wearing hugely gaudy jewellery, it's not bright (and anyway if it was, I'd still wear it!) and "I should wear a black suit over the top" again, how on earth is that answering my question?!

I am not looking for any "Oh, the dress looks wonderful etc", this is not the point of the post. I guess the point of my post is: A) why did these people answer, if it has nothing to do with what i originally asked and wanted to get opinions on, and B) Why are people so negative?! I just don't understand it myself.

So, for these reasons, I won't be using Lookville again. Has anyone else had an invite and does anyone else regularly use it?

Frugal Fashions

Hey all!

Everyone who reads this will know I love a bargain! I do sometimes splash the cash, but I still cannot ignore the sale rail! These are a few pieces I have bought recently, all 3 items coming to a total of £5!

Blue Skirt: 75p, Tesco
Red Skirt: £2.25, Tesco
Blazer: £2 New Look

The 2 skirts were originally £1 and £3 respectively, but there was a 25% off promotion which made them even cheaper!

I am so in love with this red tube/body con skirt. I have been searching all over for a decent tube skirt, and I just couldn't believe it when this was £3 AND in my size. I literally snatched it off the sale rail and hurried along to the changing rooms, I was so pleased when it fit. I think I am going to pair this with a simple black t shirt, my gold jazz shoes (from an earlier post) and some coloured ankle socks. I think I will take off the skinny belt though, it's just not very "me".

Again, I couldn't believe it when this skirt was only £1. Even when I took it to the checkout the woman had to double check this price and the label. I love the fact it is a really good bright blue, perfect to team up with other bright primary colours.

I think both of these skirts are more winter wear than summer wear, and think they will both look great with some plain black tights or some bright tights when it gets cooler.

A black blazer, in my opinion, is a wardrobe staple. Dress it up with smart trousers and a pencil skirt, or dress it down with jeans and converse, or dress it in the middle (Is there even such a saying?!) with skinny jeans and heels. This jacket is a lovely lightweight cotton and the shoulders a tiny bit puffed up, which is just perfect.

In other news, I know that Skorch Magazine has upset a lot of us fat bloggers with their vlogs on YouTube from "Marcy's Minute", based on a book "How to never look fat again". There are a few of these videos up on YouTube, from how your hair can make you fat, to fashion do's and dont's, through to losing weight. This has made me feel a bit annoyed! I look fat because I am fat, no amount of control pants are going to make me look less fat (though I have worn them in the past to get a smoother look under clothes, a pair of pants is hardly going to make me a size 10 now, is it?!) I don't like people telling me what to do. I have had it my whole life "you're fat, you shouldn't wear that" or "That makes you look fat" or "Shouldn't you wear something more flattering?" or"It's time you went on a diet". Yes, I know I am an unhealthy weight for my height, but do you know what? I like food. I LOVE food. I am happy with being fat. It has taken me a long time to feel happy. This time last year, I was going to a wedding and I had nothing to wear, I even cried at the thought of having nothing. Then I discovered fat girl blogs on here, and the fat girl community and I suddenly felt better about myself. I have always broken fashion rules, but deep down, I was always unhappy. These days I am still the fat girl, and I still break the rules, but this time I feel happy and confident. I feel like this video is just a step in the wrong direction.

Big Bum Jumble!

I was very excited to here about the Big Bum Jumble from Lauren, of The Pocket Rocket.

Big Bum Jumble is a big size clothes sale/ fashion show/ party being held on 14th August, from 12-5 at Stratford Circus, which is in East London. This has got me MEGA excited. It seems like I am forever clearing out my wardrobe/drawers/floor of stuff I have either grown out of or simply because my style changes so much, AND I love a good rummage through sales AND I also love a bargain! (isn't there a saying "One man's junk is another mans treasure"?) It'll also be cool to hang out with some other fat girls for the day, and obviously to steal some style ideas!

OOTD - Saturday Shopping!

I went into Basingstoke on Saturday to visit the lady and to hang out with my good friend Daniel. Daniel and I just had a look around the shops. I love shopping with Daniel, he often helps me with difficult clothing decisions!

Here is what I wore:

Sunglasses - Wet Seal
T - Shirt - ASOS Curve
Harem Pants - Primark
Shoes - Primark

I LOVE these shoes. They make me feel like I should be on Pineapple Dance Studios! They are so comfy.. They feel like you are wearing slippers. I also love the fact they are gold. I am not one for blending into the background, and these beauties are perfect for standing out from the crowd!

Onto ASOS Curve. I adore this T - Shirt.. It is very over sized, which I really like and it's also perfect for summer, as the material is very light. I got this in the clearance sale for £3. I also picked up the jumpsuit. I unfortunately had to send it back though. It was WAY too long. In all other respects, it was perfect. The material was beautiful and it was very flattering. I am average height (about 5ft 6, 5ft 7) and this was at least a few inches too long. I did ask my Nan (I can't sew, shameful I know) and she said it wouldn't look right if she were to take it up, as there was simply too much material to take up and it wouldn't hang right. However, this definitely hasn't put me off ordering from ASOS Curve again!

I can see me wearing these harem pants a lot this summer, so I picked up another pair when I was in Primark on Saturday. I am normally around a 20 on the bottom, but find that an 18 fits perfectly in these particular pants... I regularly pick up an 18 in stores and give them a try, sometimes you never know, especially if the material is stretchy! I love the flow and the lightness of these trousers... They feel a bit like you are wearing pyjamas, which is always a good thing in my book. They can also be paired with a lot of things from my wardrobe. For example, later that evening, I paired them with a floral vest and a blazer to go out for dinner.

Her birthday was last weekend, but we had just got back from Vegas so the gf had to go home to unpack and get ready for her new job which she started on Monday..Which is why I took her out today for a lovely lunch at The Crooked Billet . I love the fact this dress has pockets! I also really love these boots. They are really heavy though, so I can only really wear them when I don't have to walk very far.

Hello everyone!

I am hoping to post a bit more now I'm back from my holidays, I was so busy before I went away, trying to get things sorted, then I was stuck, but now I'm back, and going to be blogging more regularly!

Just thought I would post up the outfit I have worn to work today. I am very lucky in that I don't have to wear a uniform... I honestly could go to work wearing anything, I did, in fact, wear pyjamas one Friday! (along with the MD!) I try and keep things pretty comfortable and casual, as you can see:

Also a quick pic of my awesome toes, which I have MINX on! It's almost like a transfer for nails... It comes in a very thin sticky film, which is placed over the nail and then a heat lamp is applied which sticks it to the nail. I (naturally!) chose pink leopard print, but there are loads of different designs you can choose from! You can find out more here. I bought so much make up in Vegas, this is a quick FOTD which I wore today with my outfit:

So sorry to all of you, it seems like I haven't blogged in weeks! I have been on holiday to Las Vegas, so haven't had the chance, AND i've been stranded a few days due to the volcanic ash! Of course, I have made the most of my stay here, and am having to buy extra baggage to get all of my purchases home! I promise that I will do a post as soon as I am unpacked and sorted out in the UK.

Yours clothing review

I opened my emails on Wednesday, and I was greeted by an email from Yours clothing, telling me that they were offering free next day delivery. I have never ordered from Yours before, and I was intrigued as I had seen many other plus size bloggers with some lovely pieces from them. So I decided to place a small order and see what the items were like! I ordered 2 pairs of cropped leggings... one with lace on the bottom and the other pair just plain leggings. They were 2 pairs for £10 which I thought was a bit of a bargain.

Photo 1 is the leggings. They are good quality and thick. I think they run a size bigger. I am normally a size 20-22, and ordered a 16-18 and they are fine.

Photo 2 is the lace on the bottom of the other leggings. I think it adds a nice touch and is lovely to wear with a long top and heels in the evening.

The front and back of the check shirt. This is currently on sale for £10!! I really love the length of this shirt. It is the perfect length for me, as it can be worn with leggings and jeggings... I sometimes find it difficult to find shirts that are long enough.. I mean, I'm 5ft 6" (and a tiny bit!) so you wouldn't think it was difficult... but it is! This is such a perfect size as well, the buttons don't gape over my rather large chest either! I like the fact you can roll the sleeves up or down as preferred. I love the colour. I also love the feel and the quality of the cotton. It will be just perfect on a summers day with some leggings and some flats.

I placed my order at about 13.30 Wednesday, (The promotion was free next day delivery if you order between midday and 2pm, which is worth £6.95) and I had a confirmation email as soon as the order was placed. The next day I had a tracking number and even a time for when my items would be delivered! They arrived on time and well packaged.

I am really impressed with Yours clothing, and look forward to placing more orders with them!! (They stock sizes from 16-32)

My name's Kat and I'm a shopaholic.

This is what I have bought this week ...

1. Liquorice Allsorts necklace. I went to a craft fair Saturday with my sister and her BF, and got this! I saw it and couldn't just walk past. I think it's so unique and I love handmade things. I also love jewellery that is a talking point. The people who made it also have a website, with lots of other lovely things on (I also wanted the Alice in Wonderland bracelet, but I had to stop myself!) You can find the website here.

2. Check shirt from Ebay, originally from Evans. I really like this. Not long enough to wear with leggings/jeggings, but I will wear this with jeans. The one thing I dislike about it is the weird tie thing... I understand that it should be tied behind to create a more fitted look, but it's just in a really awkward place! However, I can forgive this as it is a lovely shirt.

3. Denim dress, Tesco. I love this dress! Tesco have some lovely things in at the moment. I think I might wear this with a denim jacket. The denim trend is huge for this season, as seen on the catwalks of Chloe, Ralph Lauren and D&G. For once in my life, I will actually be on trend!

4. Biker Jacket, Evans. I posted about this a while back, and decided to get it. It is a great fit and is perfect for spring.

Hello everyone!

Hope everyone is keeping well. Just a quick OOTD post! (Please ignore the socks in the photo, I had left my knee high boots I eventually wore in my car so had to pop my ankle boots on so I could walk to the car to get them!) This is what I wore out shopping and sushi eating on Saturday out and about in Reading.Was lovely meeting up with Femmie la la and having a gossip!

I can't wait to pair this look with a stripey top as well. (I almost wore the stripey top, but with a quick opinion from Kara, she said the black one was "smarter", so I went with the black)

Lots of sales around at the moment too. Evans has 20% off until Midnight on Monday online, and also in store from Wednesday to Friday. This is also off sale stuff too!

This dress is down to only £5.60 from £50!

New look also has their mid season sale on, and Dorothy Perkins has a 50% sale on as well. I am totally in love with this dress after seeing Nikstar wearing it here.

I ordered the asymetric biker jacket from Evans at the weekend too. After a lot of trying on and umm-ing and ahh-ing, I decided I would get a lot of wear out of it and is very versatile. I will post a pic when I receive it, which will hopefully be soon! I also won a check shirt from ebay as well, so will be doing an outfit post with that as well!

I am going to Vegas 5 weeks today! Are there any shops stateside/in Vegas that I should really check out when I'm there? Any advice/help/guidance appreciated!

Recent purchases!

Just a quick post to show you a few items that I have bought in the last couple of weeks. I was going to do an outfit post, but I've just had my hair cut and had to have a shower, and I couldn't be bothered to do my make up again! Anyway, here are the items:

1. Straight leg jeans from Evans. Pretty self explanatory! Don't normally wear a straight leg, so shall see how these go.

2. Bargain red blazer! I was after a coloured blazer and found this in the charity shop for £2!! I love red, and will look fab with black or navy or white, and is right on the nautical trend around at the moment. It has really cute anchors on the buttons as well! Think I am going to wear this with the stripe vest and some jeans, or the long black top and leggings.

3. Harem trousers, New look. Not quite sure how to wear these yet, and if they are, indeed, harem trousers! Still, they are comfy and a nice soft fabric.

4. Stripe vest, Dorothy Perkins. People always think big girls shouldn't wear horizontal stripes, but I love them! Again, loving the nautical theme! Can also be worn with loads of things.

5. Black long line top, Dorothy Perkins. Maybe a bit too short (even by my standards, and I like a short things!) to wear with tights, but perfect to wear with leggings or jeggings. I like the sleeves on this as they stop just above the elbow.

6. Studded belt from Evans. Will probably wear this with the black top, or any of my other long tops or dresses.

7. Puffball skirt, Dorothy Perkins. Unfortunately, this doesn't fit. I can just about do the zip up, but it just doesn't hang right! Will take this back on Saturday :-(

I really like the floral dress, would look really good with the Biker Jacket or the Denim jacket, or even a cardigan for the summer months.
Denim shorts are a staple in my summer wardrobe, I wear them with gladiator sandals or with flip flops for the beach, and also with flats and a t shirt and blazer for everyday wear.
I LOVE blazers. I love the way they can be worn a bit smarter if you wanted, or dressed down a bit with denim. I love how you can throw them on with almost ANYTHING and they still look great. (I love Gabi's blazer in picture 4 here, if anyone sees one like it, message me!) These 2 blazers really caught my eye as they are a bit different from a bog standard black, and I like a bit of print that can be paired with a simple coloured t shirt. (The polka dot blazer is also available in black and white.)
This black stripe dress is really classic. It would be good for everyday wear or for a special occasion, and I love the big black belt that comes with it.
The check shirt is only on here because my Dad gave me an awesome pair of vintage cowboy boots, (will deffo do a post soon!) and I think this would go really well with them! (And probably the denim shorts as well, bit Daisy Duke though?!)

New Coat! (Newish anyway!)

I bought this coat/mac in the New Look January sale (However, they do have one very similar to this in the current range still, and some stores still have this one on the sale rail) and have worn it a couple of times this weekend and thought I would just show it off!

I really love macs, I think they are a fairly classic piece of clothing and can go with anything (jeans and flat, skirts and heels, knee high boots and ankle boots...) I wore this yesterday with some knee high boots and for this picture, some tights and heels.

I am totally obsessed with leopard print, so when I saw this I had to have it!

Mac comparison

I recently read on Jo's Blog (on her what she used for a recent FOTD) about Prestige SunBaked mineral bronzing powder in pure shimmer. I always like a good bronzer/highlighter, so off I went to Boots to track this product down. I have never used Prestige Make up before, but have heard a few reviews about it, all good, so thought I would try it out. I chose the Pure Shimmer shade, as I am very fair and it was a pretty, light colour... Not too shiny or glittery, but just enough. It also comes in 2 other shades - Glam Tan and Rich Bronze.

When I first used this product, it struck me to how similar the concept was to Mac Mineralize skinfinish. I recently bought one of these in a Blog Sale and am totally in love with it. It is perfect for highlighting and I personally, like to use it all over to give a glow to the skin.

I'm not sure if this is prestige trying to imitate the Mac one, but for a lot cheaper than Mac and VERY similar, it is definitely worth trying. Here are a few pictures for comparison:

On the left is the Prestige bronzer, on the right the Mac mineralize skinfinish in Redhead. I know these aren't the same colour, but it is very similar to other skinfinishes I have swatched before at the Mac counter.. In other words, gives a similar kind of glowy finish and shimmer to the skin.

Picture one is with flash, picture two is without flash. The Prestige bronzer is on the left and the Mac skinfinish on the right.

I love both products! The Prestige bronzer is currently on offer at Boots for £6.99 (£2 off). I think I'm going to buy the other 2 colours as well!

I am absolutely in love with these beauties:

I love big jewellery!! I think that big, statement and sometimes chunky jewellery/accessories look better on me. Delicate pieces get a bit lost on my large frame and I think that they suit my personality a bit more. (lol, loud and chunky). I got this beauty from good ol' Primark for a fiver. I love they way that big necklaces like this can instantly dress up or glam up an every day jeans and t shirt into something a bit more special, and without breaking the bank.

Just a quick post. I recently won a giveaway over at Jess's blog, which I was really chuffed about! I won a Bubblegum lip scrub and a flosty gritter bubble bar, both from Lush. I have just used to Bubblegum lip scrub and I love it! It tastes and smells so good, and has left my lips very soft!

Here are my goodies! I suggest everyone goes and follows Jess, her blog is really good and she is a sweet girl :-)

I was also surprised by this by the postman today as well:

I was totally confused at first. I wasn't expecting a package, and when I opened it and read the letter, I found out I had won a maybelline competition on the website ages ago! I wanted to try it when it was released, but I thought £15 was a little steep for just a drug store brand mascara, when I could buy a higher end brand one for a few quid more (probably just me being tight!)
So this was a very nice surprise as well. I am yet to try this out, (as I am sat here still in my dressing gown.. Shame!) but when I do I will let you know what I think about it!

New Nails!

I have really bad nails. I bite them, (yes, bad and nasty I know!) and very rarely wear nail varnish. My hands are also quite "manly". I have really big hands! However, every so often I will have acrylic extensions. It's great knowing someone who owns her own beauty salon! (which you can find here.) I decided on black tips for a change, as I thought black would go with all my clothes as well.

Having my nails done always makes me feel a bit more confident and girly, and they have also cheered me up a bit. I think Gemma did a great job :-)

This is my first haul post. I am a shopaholic! This is what I have purchased in the last month: (or there abouts!)

* Sleek Palette in Storm. I love Sleek palettes. Really highly pigmented and a bargain at £4.99!

From left to right in the second photo we have:
* Eyeko eyeliner transformer thing
* Eyeko 3 in 1 tinted cream (A lot of Eyeko products were £1 in superdrug, and I had heard about it from Paula's Blog, and decided to try it.)
* Nars Orgasm Blush. I had heard so much about this, and I had a John Lewis voucher to spend, so I thought I would treat myself. I LOVE IT!
* Smashbox photo finish primer. (I got this from Nikki's blog sale)
* GOSH Nail Lacquer in holographic. ( I never wear nail varnish, and I saw this on Kim's blog, and I HAD to try it!)
* Mac Mineralize Skinfinish in Redhead. (bought from make up advice forum, thanks to Jennifer who directed me to this site!)
*Collection 2000 lasting perfection foundation in Ivory.
* NYX lipsticks in Summer love and Rea. I bought these from the lovely Sinead.
* Rimmel Lipstick in a lovely bright pink shade, in Vogue.
* And hiding at the back is Boots no.7 skin illuminator in peach.

I also went a bit crazy at Evans and got these goodies:

I love the bangles especially, the silver ones are like a disco ball! Very glitzy.

I got some nice leggings, with a rose and lace print on it from Sainsburys!

It's kind of making an outfit up, but there was so many things I liked, I decided it was nice to have a choice and stuck them all on here, kind of like a Mix N Match!

I would wear the Rose top/tunic dress with either the leggings or jeggings. ( I find jeggings slightly warmer.) I would put the purple belt with it to give it a bit of a colour pop, plus I love purple!

I would team it with either the black biker jacket or the denim biker jacket, probably the denim for a more relaxed day time look.

I would rock it up with the studded boots, ideal for daytime walking round the shops all day or to work!

I would accessorize it with the cute bangles and/or the wide silver bracelet.

I really love this look, kind of daytime rock chick look. For make up, I would probably go for a smokey eye and nude lip, or if I was feeling in the mood, a bright red lipstick. Red or black nail varnish would finish this look perfectly :-)

Random book recommendation

This is just a total random post, about a book I would like to recommend to EVERYONE!!

It's called Beauty Bible Beauty Steals, written by Sarah Stacey, who is a Journalist and TV producer, who is currently the Health Editor of The Mail on Sunday YOU magazine (A newspaper I never personally would buy, but hey) and Josephine Fairley, a contributing editor to the Mail on Sunday magazine (YOU), where she writes on beauty and organic living, and she also writes in Tatler, Here's Health and Elle Magazines about beauty.

I received this book for Christmas, and haven't been able to put it down! It is a total encyclopedia of beauty "steals" (all costing under £10!!), tested by real, everyday women, so you know you aren't getting a biased point of view. It covers everything from Body lotions to hair products to MAKE UP!! It gives everything a mark out of ten, and marks it with a purse symbol if it is a super steal (IE under £5). It is also full of tips and tricks to make products go that bit further and general application tips for make up as well.

I like the way it is so clear and concise, and also the fact is small enough to slip into your handbag to take shopping with you. Also the fact it has brought my attention to products I might not have heard of or ever used. There is also quite a few organic/green products in their too,(which are marked with a small daisy, depending on how organic the ingredients are) which I like, as it's always interesting to see how well organic products do compared to non organic products.

The only problem I have with this is that new products are being released ALL the time, so this could go out of date quickly. However, I think any Friend, Sister, Mum, Grandma or Auntie would love this book as it saves a lot of sometimes costly mistakes when buying products.

10 things that make me HAPPY!!

I was tagged by the lovely Bicky to list 10 things that make me HAPPY!

Rules: To list 10 things that make you happy, try and do one of them today and pass it on to ten people.

These are in no particular order!

1. My family. I am really lucky to have a close family, I hang out with my sister quite a bit. i also live at home, which a lot of people might consider a bit wrong at 27, but it's really fun. We laugh a lot, are always taking the mick out of each other and my Dad cooks my breakfast for me some mornings! I always know my family are there for me, and I am really very lucky to have them. This is my sister:

2.My Girlfriend. We have been together almost 2 and a half years, and she puts up with my mood swings and my princess demands, she is just great :-)

3. My Puppy! I got a puppy last week, we named her Tilly. She is just beautiful. A proper little rascal, forever trying to get in the dishwasher and chewing up shoes! Love her to bits.

4. My friends - i am lucky to have so many lovely friends! I am friends with so many people, I haven't got a picture of all of us together unfortunately :-(

5. MY CAR!! It took my about 6 (or was it 7?!) attempts to pass my driving test, and I after years of trying and failing, I finally past in May 2007. I have always wanted a convertible, i am a total poser, and i decided to get this little Ford StreetKA. Excellent fun in the summer!

6. My job - This may sound really sad to some people! But I do love my work. It is very relaxed, I work with great people and it's 2 minute drive away from my house. Before I worked here, I worked on Make up counters, and although the perks were good, (Free products!!) the days were long, and I had to travel to reading and back every day, which i really hated doing in the winter months. I have also worked as a holiday rep, which was the best summer of my life! Very good fun... 24 hour booze ups, pool party's and hot weather!

7. Money - Materialistic, but money buys me things I want, and pays for me to be able to do things. Pay day is the best day of the month!

8. Holidays - I love going on holiday. I am very lucky to have been round the world when I was 19, travelling to Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Australia and America. I have always loved travelling, when I was younger I was always lucky to go to new places in the sunshine :-) Last year I went to Poland, odd place to go to, but Krakow was a brilliant place! I would tell anyone to go there if they wanted to experience something a bit different. (plus it's cheap!) This year I am going to LAS VEGAS!! I really can't wait to go. I love all things sparkly and tacky, so Vegas seemed the best choice!

9. Make up!! I love the way make up can totally transform someone. I always think wearing make up makes me feel so much better about myself, so much more confident. I also love doing make up and making people look pretty and feel better. I like how when you feel down, you can just put on some lippy and instantly feel a little bit better. I have always loved make up, I couldn't imagine my life without it!

10. Shopping - As a plus size, I do find it more challenging to buy nice, well fitting, fashionable clothes. It makes me feel happy when I find something that doesn't scream "fat girl", and when something is in the sale... That's always good too ;-)

What products am I using this month?

Shampoo: Aussie Miracle Moist. I love Aussie products!

Shower gel: Johnson and Johnson Baby Softwash. Makes my skin so soft AND smells like babies!

Styling products: VO5 Extreme Style Matt clay/L'Oreal Studio Line Mineral Control Mess It Up Putty and VO5 hairspray.

Body moisturiser: Is it bad that I don't really use one?!

Deodorant: Sure Natural Minerals, (both fragrances) Dove Invisible Dry or Mitchum Powderfresh.

Face primer: L'Oreal Studio Secrets Anti-shine Primer or using up Boots No.7 Shine Free Make-up Base. (It's not very good, I wouldn't recommend it!)

Foundation: Depends on the day, but Revlon Colorstay in Buff today. Am also loving the Collection 2000 Lasting Perfection Foundation in Ivory. If you haven't tried this yet, you must. It's on a par, if not better, than a lot of more expensive brand foundations I have tried.

Concealer: Don't really use one!

Blush: I have mostly been using my new Nars Orgasm blush, but today I have on ELF blush. (From the Studio Blush and Bronzer Compact.)

Eye Base: Urban Decay Primer Potion. (I haven't really used one until I got this for Christmas, so I sometimes forget to put it on!)

Eyeshadows: I recently bought the Sleek Palette in Storm, so have been using that the last few days. I wear a different eyeshadow almost every day. Really loving Mac eyeshadow in Goldmine with Sketch blended into the outer edge/crease. Totally depends on how I feel when I do my make up!

Eyeliner: Mac Powerpoint Eye pencil in Engraved or Barry M Super Soft Eye Crayon in Black or ELF Brightening Eyeliner in Black, depends which one I find first!

Mascara: Maybelline Define a Lash.

Lip Balm: Cherry Chapstick, or because I use a baby moisturiser, I normally slather this all over my lips too.

Lipstick: Sinead very kindly sent me a couple of NYX lipsticks in "Rea" and "Summer Love", so have been wearing "Summer Love" the last few days. Have also been using Gosh Lipstick in Darling, Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipstick in shade In Vogue, L'Oréal Colour Riche Shine Gelee Lipstick in Sugar Rose (AMAZING lipstick. Almost like a gloss and lipstick in one, and is very moisturising and feels nice on the lips.)

Lipgloss: Don't really use one, but when i do I use Mac Lipglass in Electro-Lush, or Barry M Glossy tube in shade 4.

Nail colour: Don't really wear Nail Colour, unless my friend does it for me, because I am rubbish at applying it!

Perfume: I must have about 15-20 perfumes?! Just found a new love for Coco by Chanel though. I also like Coco Mademoiselle, L.A.M.B by Gwen Stefani and will always love Angel by Thierry Mugler, but haven't really worn this in the last month, I save that for very special occasions!

Review of Maybelline Dream Creamy Foundation

I love a new product! I saw this and couldn't resist. I am a big fan of Maybelline make up, i think the mascaras are just as good, if not better than a lot of premium brands. I also really like their lipsticks and a few of their foundations. I thought I would give this a go, as it was new and on offer!
Price: £5.99 on an introductory offer, will be £7.99 normally.
Available from: Boots, Superdrug and all good stockists :-)
Shades: Light Porcelein, Nude, Sand, Fawn and Sun Beige.

What I like:
I like the texture of it. It's so much lighter than a lot of "solid" foundations I have tried before, and a lot lighter than the Dream Matte Mousse. It's also really soft and smooth, the texture AND the feel on your skin. It sounds really odd, but when you apply it, it feels really cool on the skin, it would be lovely to use in the summer. I also love the way it glides onto the skin really smoothly. It's also very easy to blend.

What I dislike:
I love a full coverage foundation. I normally use a number of different foundations (not all at the same time, though it has been known!) including L'oreal Infallible, Revlon Colorstay, Mac Studio Fix Fluid, Elizabeth Arden Ceramide Plump Perfect Make up, just to give you an idea! This one just wasn't enough coverage for me. It was a light to medium coverage I would say. It isn't as full coverage as the mousse. If I was to apply it to the coverage I wanted, it wouldn't be very economical.
I also found it quite hard to apply. At first I used a foundation brush, and found it quite difficult. I moved onto using the little sponge included, but it didn't seem big enough, it was just OK. I think I may need to get a bigger sponge and try it that way.
I also disliked the packaging, I found it really hard to open. It's a bit fiddly! You have to screw the top off, and the product is underneath, inside the top. (sounds complicated, but you will know what I mean if you buy one!) The sponge is in a different compartment.
It states it "stays looking fresh all day". I would disagree with that. I would say it only lasted on my skin a few hours.(I used a moisturiser and primer before applying as well, and my skin is dry/combination)

Would I buy again?
Probably not. It's ok for wearing to work, but that's about it for me.

Overall, I love the texture and would be perfect if you were looking for a lightweight, light to medium coverage foundation.

Spring Wishlist!

Hello There!!

I love shopping, I am totally addicted to shopping. Shopping for clothes and make up/beauty products!! This time of year is depressing; Christmas is over, it's FREEZING cold and it seems ages until the summer. However, to cheer us all up a *tiny* bit, the stores are now starting to get there Spring range in. Here are a few pieces I have my eye on:

1.Scarf, £12, Evans.

2. Bright Check Western Shirt, £25, Evans.

3. Black Pencil Skirt, £25, Dorothy Perkins.

4. Nautical Stripe Jumper, £25, Inspire at New Look.

5. Black Leather Slingback Shoes, £50, Evans.

6. Black Leather Look Biker Jacket, £30, F&F at Tesco.

I love the floral print of the scarf, making it a bit different from a usual colour block scarf and I always find scarfs really handy to jazz up a boring, plain vest/t shirt/jumper.

I love checks and I am glad to see plaid/checks are also in for spring as well. This is one is nice and bright too, which I also love! Will probably be wearing this with a denim mini and my vintage cowboy boots.

This black pencil skirt is very sexy. I personally think girls with a few curves look amazing in pencil skirts! I also think they are quite versatile, you could wear it with flats, knee high flat boots or some nice red heels. You could wear it with different things on the top too, for example a smart blouse or jumper for work, and maybe a band t shirt and boyfriend jacket at the weekend. I think it would look AMAZING with the biker jacket featured here.

I love nautical stripes, I always think they look really smart. I also think this jumper are the perfect colours to be teamed with red. This would look so good with some red leggings underneath.

These shoes are lovely. They are also wide fit too, which is good to see! These would look perfect with a dress and leggings for a night out.

OMG!! I cannot believe this jacket is from Tesco. It is stunning. I absolutely love it. Tesco is great as they go up to a size UK22, and they are reasonably priced and offer some really good fashion items as well as basics. This jacket would go with ANYTHING. Jeans, florals, skirts, dresses, leggings... I am so in love with it!
